For instance the following line:

'These are my hands.'

To follow this I would probably run through the gambit of ideas like: help, hurt, hold, heal yada yada yada. Those concepts are well understood and are easily swallowed.

To work a rhyme perhaps:

'These are my hands.
I do as I can.'

Simple, predictable and bla...by themselves. The imagery is understood. But, it doesn't really leap out yet.

At the risk of picking on Jewel. =) It is necessary to choose wisely the language from this point forward as per my example.

So:

These are my hands, I do with them what I can.
I trust you understand, but how could you understand?

Too many rhyming words. Okay, next problem. What kind of a mood am I looking for?

Sad, explanatory, melancholy, angry, misunderstood...HMPF. It's too bad we can't just slap a smiley in place of the words. [well there it is - a bit of genius]

In an effort to approach what "art" is, or what "anything" is for that matter, Man Must Measure. We chunk things as programmers. We make them into cognitive 'bite-sized' pieces.

We do this because there is no way for man to explain the continuum...all man can do is describe the "biggest" while there will always be a bigger "biggest" and a smaller "smallest".
